The Students' Association of Red Deer College is dedicated to supporting and encouraging student endeavours and pursuits. Awards.pngProceeds from SA businesses, including The Lift and the Far Side Bar & Grill, help support the 30-plus awards and scholarships given by the Association.

Your Students' Association celebrates student success and positive contributions to student life on campus by conferring a variety of awards and scholarships at the Students' Association Awards Ceremony. The Students' Association also presents a number of other awards and scholarships throughout the year.

Students and faculty are encouraged to nominate individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the college community.

SA Awards & Scholarships

The Student Of The Year Award (1)

Value: $1000

Eligibility: Awarded to a student who has been enrolled in a full-time capacity.  Executives of the Association in the year considered will not be eligible.

Criteria: Awarded to the student who most demonstrates outstanding contributions and leadership in the field of student affairs.  The recipient of this award will have performed at a level well above the requirements of that individual’s position.

Deadline: March 1

Terry Wood Award (1)

Value: $800

Eligibility: Student who is a member of the Students’ Association of Red Deer College.

Criteria: Student must have demonstrated personal growth and involvement leading to the betterment of the Students’ Association and its’ members.

Deadline: March 1

How to apply: Nomination forms are available at the RDC Student Funding & Awards Office (Room 1102), at the Donald School of Business (third floor) or at the Students’ Association Office (Room 2010). Applications are also available online.

The Outstanding Dedication Award(s) – (max 5)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Awarded to a Member of the Association. Executives of the Association in the year considered will not be eligible.

Criteria: Based on outstanding contribution and leadership in the field of student affairs.  The recipients of this award will have performed at a level well above and beyond the requirements of the individual’s position.

Deadline: March 1

Student Volunteer Award(s) (5)

Value: $300

Eligibility: Awarded to a Member of the Association.

Criteria: Based on volunteer activities that benefit the students of Red Deer College.

Deadline: March 1

Mental Health Initiatives Award (5)

Value: $300

Eligibility: Awarded to a Member of the Association.

Criteria: Based on outstanding leadership in the area of mental health initiatives.

Deadline: March 1

Student Group Award(s) (2)

Value: $300

Eligibility: Awarded to a Student Group

Criteria: Based on outstanding dedication to the student body through Student Group involvement which goes well above and beyond the predetermined priority of that Student Group.

Deadline: March 31

The Part-Time Staff Member Award (3)

Value: $300

Eligibility: Awarded to a Member employed by the Association.

Criteria: Based on outstanding performance in that individual’s area and dedication, over and above the requirements, to the Association.

Deadline: March 31

College Member Contribution in Student Affairs Award (2)

Value: Framed Certificate and $20 Association Gift Certificate

Eligibility: Awarded to a member of the College community.

Criteria: Based on a dedication to student affairs. The recipient of this award will have continually been involved in student activities, and/or committees of the Association.

Deadline: March 31

Other Students' Association Awards & Scholarships

Students’ Association- Outstanding Academic Achievement Award (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Having completed a minimum of one year of full-time studies at RDC and continuing in full-time studies at RDC.

Criteria: Academic standing, financial consideration

Students’ Association- Career & Academic Preparation (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Having completed two or more courses in the Career and Academic Preparation Program at RDC in the term immediately preceding their application, and continuing in full-time studies at RDC.

Criteria: Academic standing.

Students’ Association- Carolyn Peevey Memorial Award (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Mature student who has completed the first year of any diploma program who is continuing in the second year of the diploma at RDC.

Criteria: Academic excellence (minimum 3.5 GPA)

Students’ Association- Bachelor of Arts Scholarship (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: RDC student having completed the first year of the Bachelor of Arts Program taking at least 9 credits per term. Continuing on to the second year of the program at RDC.

Criteria: Academic standing and College/community involvement

Deadline: March 31

Students’ Association- Bachelor of Arts Collaborative Scholarship (1)

Value: $600

Eligibility: Student entering full-time studies in the third year of the Bachelor of Arts Collaborative Degree program who has completed the previous year of the same program at RDC.

Criteria: Academic standing and financial need

Students’ Association- Bachelor of Education Scholarship (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: RDC student having completed the first year of the Bachelor of Arts Program taking at least 9 credits per term. Continuing on to the second year of the program at RDC.

Criteria: Academic standing and College/community involvement

Students’ Association- Bachelor of Education, Middle Years Scholarship (1)

Value: $600

Eligibility: Student entering full-time studies in the third year of the Bachelor of Education Collaborative Degree program - Middle School who has completed the previous year of the same program at RDC.

Criteria: Academic standing and financial need

Students’ Association- Motion Pictures Arts Scholarship (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Awarded to a student who has completed the RDC Theatre Studies Diploma Program and has been accepted into the Motion Picture Arts Applied Degree Program at RDC.

Note: If no continuing students fit the criteria, then students from outside RDC Theatre Studies will be considered.

Criteria: Academic performance. Financial need.

Students’ Association- Bachelor of Science Continuing Scholarship (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Student entering their 2nd year of full-time studies in the Bachelor of Science Program at RDC.

Criteria: Academic standing and financial need.

Deadline: March 31

Students’ Association- Involvement in College Governance Scholarship (2)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Student continuing in the second year of full-time studies at RDC. Designed to encourage first-year students to become part of the Student Government process.

Criteria: Involvement in college or student government, academic standing, and financial need considered.

Deadline: March 31

Students’ Association- Donald School of Business (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Student continuing in full-time studies at the Donald School of Business.

Criteria: Involvement in College or student government, academic standing, financial need considered.

Deadline: March 31

Students’ Association- University Transfer Program Scholarship (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Student entering the 2nd year of full-time studies in a university transfer program at RDC.

Criteria: Academic standing and financial need.

Deadline: March 31

Students’ Association- Roy North Scholarship for Outstanding Contribution and Leadership (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Having been enrolled in a full-time program at RDC for the Fall/Winter term immediately preceding nomination. Executive of the Students’ Association and the Board of Governors Representatives in the year of the award will not be eligible. 

Criteria: Outstanding contribution and leadership in the field of student political affairs (50%) and academic standing (50%)

Deadline: April 15

Students’ Association- Apprenticeship Graduation Award (2)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Apprenticeship who has his/her complete program at RDC. 

Criteria: Academic standing and College/community involvement.

Deadline: May 31

Students’ Association- Continuing Apprenticeship Scholarship (1)

Value: $500

Eligibility: Apprenticeship student who is continuing any RDC apprenticeship program.

Criteria: Financial need

Other Students' Association Awards - by nomination only

Students' Association of Red Deer College Music Bursary

Value: $500

Eligibility: Student continuing full-time studies in their 2nd year of the RDC Music program who has completed the most recent academic year in the 1st year of the same program at RDC.

Criteria: Financial need, College and Community Involvement.

Application Process: Nominated by Faculty in early February.

Students' Association of Red Deer College Visual Arts Bursary

Value: $500

Eligibility: Student continuing full-time studies in their second year of a RDC Visual Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts program, who has completed the most recent academic year in the first year of the same program at RDC.

Criteria: Financial Need. This bursary is to assist a student to purchase materials needed to fully realize projects for their final studio portfolios.

Application Process: Nominated by Faculty in early February.

Students' Association of Red Deer College Dr. Guillermo Barron Philosophy Scholarship

Value: $600

Eligibility: Continuing student entering full-time studies in their second, third or fourth year of a RDC program that has completed the most recent academic term at RDC (Collaborative and Partnership programs included). Preference given to a student taking a Philosophy course (not necessarily a Philosophy major).

Criteria: Based upon an essay submitted as part of the student's normal course work. Preference will be given to written work that shows a spirit of independent thinking in Philosophy.

Application Process: Nominated by Faculty in the Humanities & Social Sciences Department in early May.
